Chief Tim Richardson is a 21 year veteran of the Michigan City Police Department.  He currently oversees the Uniform Patrol Division which is the largest division in the Michigan City Police Department.  The Patrol Division is also the first point of contact between the Department and the public.

 

Richardson began his career as an officer with the Michigan City Police Department on August 15, 1994.  He is a graduate of the 120th academy class of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy where he graduated in the top five in his class.  Richardson has served in: the Uniform Patrol Division as a Patrolman; Special Operations Group; SWAT  Team member and served as a Team Leader; Detective Bureau; Drug Task Force as an investigator; and from 2005 thru 2007 he has served as the Commander of the Narcotics Task Force.  While assigned to the Narcotics Task Force, Chief Richardson was appointed as a Task Force Officer with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Merrillville Resident Office.

 

As Chief of Operations, Chief Richardson has asked that all uniform patrol officers take an active role in Community Policing within our community.  Chief Richardson asks that all Officers are mindful of the Departments Mission Statement during their respective tours of duty.  Chief Richardson frequently spends several hours working the various shifts.  To insure that he keeps himself abreast of the current crime trends affecting the city, he also visits community groups and organizations, and listens to feedback from the community.  He is actively involved in the day to day operations of the police department and its essential services.

Chief Royce Williams is a 24 year veteran of the Michigan City Police Department.  Williams graduated from the Indiana law Enforcement Academy in 1992.  He is a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1987 to 1991, during which time he participated in Operation Desert Storm.

 

Chief Williams has served the Police Department in many capacities including the Uniform Patrol Division.  He has great experience in the Detective Bureau as an investigator/supervisor since 2005.  His accomplishments include creating the “Top Ten Most Wanted” program and having been deputized as a Task Force Agent to the U.S. Marshall’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.  Williams has served as Technology Advisor for the Detective Bureau, the Michigan City Police Department Liaison to the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center and as a Team Leader with the Michigan City SWAT Team.

 

Chief Williams is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Homicide Investigators course and he has completed extensive training in criminal profiling, interview and interrogation, and evidence procedures.

 

Duties as Chief of Services include overseeing the operations of the Investigative Division, Narcotics Division, Division of Professional Standards, Records Division, Information Technology, Civilian employees, and the annual operating budget for the Michigan City Police Department.
