Alijah Hunter is a 14 year veteran in the field of Animal Control and Humane Enforcement. In 2000, he joined the City Of Michigan City as an Animal Control Officer in which he oversees the daily operations of the Michigan City Animal Control. He handles animal complaints, animal at large, animals bite, cruelty and dogfighting investigations. Alijah, also enforces all city and state laws pertaining to wild and domesticated animals.


In 2012, Alijah Hunter focused his efforts on the work he was doing with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security District #1 as the Animal Response Coordinator. In November 2013 Alijah Hunter was invited to speak at the “Whole Community Preparedness Conference” in Lisle, Illinois and in May 2014 he participated in a multi-state full scale exercises “Operation Exodus” based on a scenario where Indiana would have to handle a large amount of evacuees from Chicago and the animals that they would bring with them.


In September 2014 Alijah Hunter was able to secure the District’s first Animal Response Trailer. The trailer will be housed in Michigan City, IN (MCPD) and will be used to house domestic animals in the event of an Emergency. Alijah Hunter continues to work with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and FEMA Region #5.
